CANINE GOOD CITIZEN AND THERAPY SKILLS:  to be scheduled soon – contact us if you are interested.
The CGC test is offered by the AKC and requires dogs to pass a 10 part examination, demonstrating their obedience skills and tolerance to handling and strangers. The Canine Good Citizen Program is a two-part program that stresses responsible pet ownership for owners and basic good manners for dogs. All dogs who pass a 10-step CGC test may receive a certificate from the American Kennel Club. Many dog owners choose Canine Good Citizen training as the first step in training their dogs. The Canine Good Citizen Program lays the foundation for other AKC activities such as obedience, agility, tracking, and performance events and trains skills such as polite greeting, sit, down, come, stay, polite walking on leash, dealing with distractions and more.
Therapy dogs are dogs that visit schools, nursing homes, and hospitals bringing a message of love and cheer. They should have proper greeting manners, leash manners and be able to tolerate dogs and strangers in their environment as well as some vigorous body handling. To work as therapy dogs, most organizations require teams to pass an evaluation or pass the Canine Good Citizen (CGC) certification. Come learn the requirements for each of these examinations and hone your skills in preparation for them or just to practice good manners so your dog is welcome in the community.  Instructor: Linda Greenfield

Canine Conditioning and Fitness – Focused on the Canine Athlete: Sunday, May 6th from 9:30 am-1:30 pm

This seminar is for owners and their sports dogs that want to understand the basics of canine conditioning and learn dynamic and challenging exercises to improve strength, balance, and flexibility for their canine athletes as well as understand how to develop a balanced cross training plan. We will focus on exercises that strengthen shoulders, core and hind limb muscles including the iliopsoas. Strengthening these muscle groups will significantly improve performance as well as help reduce chances of common sports injuries in the shoulders and iliopsoas. We will utilize a variety of FitPAWS equipment. If you don’t have FitPAWs equipment at home – I will give suggestions on using household items to substitute. We also will review foundation and form, biomechanics of jumping, discuss signs of fatigue, proper warm-up and cool down, and how to perform range of motion. We will discuss how to develop a balanced cross training plan that utilizes all five Canine Total Health areas and utilizes all planes of motion.

This seminar is for healthy sound dogs – and not for dogs rehabilitating from an injury without permission from your rehab professional.
